A little background on what the incident was… A Hisar native complained about a bus driver smoking, saying that it made him feel uncomfortable and it’s an offense to smoke in public. However, the consumer court dismissed this complaint as smoking is a personal choice. We personally think this is such a progressive step not just for the country but for all of us as human beings. It’s refreshing to see authority take the side of an individual and his right, instead of trying to be unnecessarily righteous.
Smokers have been through so much from being banned at certain places to being ridiculed for trying to relive some stress to being called out on every platform ever when Covid-19 hit. Its about time, someone realized the value of a personal choice. But more importantly than that, people must seriously have nothing to do in life than harass a poor bus driver. He does a twelve hour shift a day - come rain, come heat, come wind. Earns close to nothing and is responsible for the safety of all his passengers. One surely must be cruel, self-centered and uncouth to add to this man’s stress.
We all love having the occasional puff during a long or hard workday, just because a bus driver’s workday isn’t in an office, he shouldn’t be punished for it. We think we’ve made our point, and we hope you agree. Let’s stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. Be kinder and more respectful to everyone’s choices and live happier lives. A special thank you to the consumer court for being the start to everything right.
